"Onyx" Slabs
Although onyx is properly microcrystalline quartz, what most people consider as onyx is actually calcite with banding or figuring. These "onyx" slabs are indeed mostly composed of calcite. This material cuts quickly and takes a high polish with tin oxide or diamond.
